FORESTS OF WILLOWS.
MENACE TO DRAINAGE. In regard to the Waitoa Drainage Board’s proposals for willow poisoning, the engineer (Mr. W. R. Johnson) reported at Saturday’s meeting that he had written to a Hamilton engineer asking for advice. The chairman (Mr. F. W. Walters) suggested also writing to the Lands Department at Kerepeehi. Mr. Wagstaff said that in some places the willows were becoming forests in the streams. The chairman said that the swamp willows were a menace- and hard to kill. The weeping willows were not hard to kill. The engineer was instructed to obtain information on willow poisoning.
