ALADDIN

GORGEOUS PANTOMIME. It is not often that an amateur theatrical organisation is so fortunate in its productions as has been the case with those who are taking part in the “ Aladdin ” pantomime, which is to receive its premiere in Putaruru on Tuesday next. Mr. Horace Melville, who came from Auckland to produce the show, is a most versatile gentleman. He is to play the part of Widow Twankay, the dame, a part which he created in Sydney 12 years ago. The Cave of Jewels is a masterpiece. The gorgeous Garden of Wisteria is a sheer delight of riotous colouring. The Market Place is an exotic feast of Oriental colour. Lantern Land, in Japan, makes one ache to visit such a land of light and delight. Outside the Cave and Cloudland are charming little scenes, but the whole is capped by a magnificent Emperor’s Palace, which is extremely beautiful. Another fortunate choice was that of Miss Muriel Brown, who was solo dancer with Fuller’s Revues and J. C. Williamson’s productions. She will also be remembered as a talented member of the Allan Wilkie Co. The ballet has been called the exquisite eight and will perform the “ Minuet,” also the “ Butterflies’ Dance,” “ The Wisteria Ballet,” and “ Sally’s Wedding Day,” besides featuring in the various song scenas. Mr. Tano Fama, who, it will be remembered, produced “ The Famous Digger ” shows both in France and here, has put through the half dozen rehearsals, so that the company is again most fortunate.
