The Engineer reported : —There is very little to deal with this month, the only work going on at present being the metalling of the Toritt a-roud. The contractor is progressing favorably, ami has done 17 chains, for which he asks a progress payment, which 1 recommend. The road is standing the lit avy traffic well, except m one place about a chain in length, which 1 will have fasetned, as it will not carry metal without. A fire lit at Mr Rodney’s on the Maugaramarama-road has damaged a bridge considerably, and 1 must make inquiries as to who is to blame, as I understand that no notice was given to anyone befere lighting the fire.

I would also call your attention to the state of the Board’s paddock, as there are a number of rotten logs lying about which would endanger the office in case of fire spreading as it did last season. Whilst mentioning this I would also ask that 1 may use this paddock, as I am obliged to keep a horse, and this paddock if looked after would be a great assistance. I would also ask that 1 may have a duplicate key of the office, as it is inconvenient to me to receive men inquiring übout Hoad Board work nt my house, and at present 1 have to take any plans 1 may require to my house and work there. The report was adopted. WHAT KINO OF ROAO.
