High Commissioner's Cabled Market Report.

The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London 6th April 1918, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot). Meat.—Supplies consist chiefly of imported, selling at maximum prices. Pork, English and imported, maximum fixed prices have been raised to Is 4d. Imported beef, hinds, fores, prices have been fixed, 13fd and lOfid per lb. respectively. Butter. —Market remains unchanged. Cheese. —Prices remain unchanged, with the exception of English Cheddar, wholesale maximum fixed price has been raised, 168 s April and May, 144 s 8d after May. Government intends to 'control in the near future distribution of English cheese. Hemp.—Manila hemp continues in demand. It is understood that maximum fixed prices have been arranged with United States of America. New Zealand, demand for spot is good, also en route.

Wheat. —Offerings are small, demand is good, no change in prices. Oats. —Market quiet but firm.
