At the circuit quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church, held in Blenheim on Wednesday evening, the lack of homo missionaries was mentioned. It was determined to keep the Havelock services as continuous as possible, a small transit grant having been secured for the purpose. The secretary of the _ Wellington Education Board ogives notice that the annual meeting of householders for the election of a School- Committee for each school district will be held on Monday 22nd April. Written nominations should be in the hands of the chairman on the 15th inst., but either verbal or written nominations will be accepted at the meeting of householders. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Pelorus Road Board, the chairman and members made very eulogistic references to the good work done by Mr A. B, Wright, (who recently retired from the position of Government Resident Engineer for Marlborough) during his term of office. Special reference was made to Mr Wright’s unfailing courtesy and readiness to assist the Board in acquiring grants and obtaining assistance from the Public Works Department for urgent needs of the district. Good attendances were recorded at the Easter services at St. Peter’s Church, Havelock, and the building was very tastefully decorated *by lady members of the choir and congregation. On Good Friday evening “The Story of the Cross ’ ’ was impressively sung to the new setting, the soloists being the Misses Annie and-Mavis Orsman, the Rev. A. H. Heron, and Mr J. E. Akersten. The communicants at the twomorning services on Easter Day numbered 31. The evening service was semi-choral, the solo “Calvary” being well sung by Mr Akersten. Miss L. Orsman who officiated at the organ at all the Easter services, added much to the brightness of the singing by her skilful handling of the instrument, the voluntaries being also a pleasing feature.

A very successful dance, held under the management of the Havelock Patriotic Society, was held in the Town Hall on Easter Monday evening at the conclusion of the pictures. Many willing hands soon had the hall cleared for dancing, which was kept up with spirit for several hours, Mr Scott (Eai Valley) officiated at the piano, and his music was much appreciated. Mr W. Orsman made an efficient M.C. Thanks are due to Mr E. Berg, of the Universal Pictures, who kindly gave the use of his electric light plant for the occasion. The proceeds amounted to £5 10s, which will be earmarked for the Red Cross Fund. An excellent supper was served by a committee of ladies, to whom the success of the function is mainly due.
