THE PELORUS GUARDIAN and Miners’ Advocate. FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 1918. ELECTRIC LIGHT SCHEME.

In connection with the electric light scheme for Havelock township, the petition authorising the Board to borrow £I9OO for the installation of the same will be circulated for propertyowners' signature or otherwise early next week. It might be of interest to our readers to know what is embodied on this £I9OO loan, and we have obtained from the Town Clerk the following details, which we trust will be of material value in aiding the pushing forward of this scheme as speedily as possible: . The differentiated items are as follows : * £ Purchase of dynamo .. ~ 340 Transportation and installation Pelton and dynamo .. 110 Tapping and Piping Main on to Pelton 62 miles of cable, purchase and erection of poles, installation of 30 100 c.p. lamps, and coupling up service mains 1120 Contcngcncies 268 Total for installation of minor scheme £I9OO

This of course, does not include house connections, which will be done at the cost of the householder at 40s per point (or tight) approximately; but if householders feel that they can get the light connected up cheaper by employing their own electricians they will be at liberty to do so. The above will give Havelock a complete and permanent lighting scheme, with the probable additional cost of a stand-by engine, which is allowed for in the contingencies; and should the scheme require enlarging, the erection of the stop, dam

and diversion of streams to one head will give ample power and cheaper running. The estimated cost to the consumer will be about £2_ 14s per year, including use of electric iron, etc. As the winter is fast approaching, and as we are assured it is possible to have the scheme in operation in three months, it is trusted the propertyowners will strengthen the town Board's hands by giving them a clear indication of the immediate' requirements of the town. We understand, providing the ratepayers further signify their approval of the scheme on the basis outlined in the petition, that it is the intenton of the Board to call for tenders for the work.
