ENEMY’S LINES ENTERED,
LONDON, March 17. Sir Douglas Haig reports:— We entered the enemy’s lines westward of Villers Guislain. _ Wo repulsed raids in the neighbourhood of Passchendaele and Poelcapelle. There is reciprocal artillery fire south-westward of Cambrai, southward of Armentieres, and in the Messines and Menin road sectors. Sir Douglas Haig later reports:— The Canadians raided south-east of Lens. .. t A large party of the enemy raided Passchendaele, and suffered heavily. _ We repulsed raids south of the Monin road. , Our aviators bombed a railhead near Lille and aerodromes north-east and eastward of St. Quentin. One of the latter’s hangars was set on fire and two others were badly damaged. Welsh troops made a successful raid in the neighbourhood of Armentieres. There is hostile artillery activity south-eastward of Ypres in the neighbourhood of the Menin road, and southward of Houthulst Forest. A Belgian communique says:— There has been considerable artillery activity during the past two days. An enemy raid at Mcrckcm was stopped by barrages. There were heavy bombing encounters in the region of Nieuport and Dixmude.
