"A Queen of Knaves, ' the star attraction at the Town Hall on Saturday, is a picture full of a sensational incidents. It shows up; in a wonderfully realistic manner the methods of the infamous gang of jewel robber s that scourged Europe just before the war. It was suspected that a clever woman, well known in society, was one of the most, daring of the gang, but all efforts to prove the suspicion were in vain. Some hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of jewels were stolen from London, Paris, Amsterdam, and other Continental cities, but onjy a small quantity has been recovered. The war stopped the work of the thieves, but has made the likelihood of recovery more remote. "Her Husband’s Honour," is another cleverly acted little play. It deals with the clever methods' adopted to smuggle jewels past the Revenue Officer at New. York. A bright and attractive girl, the young wife of a junior officer in the U. S. Customs, helps her father to smuggle some pearls into the country, thinking it only fun—a game of hide and seek. She, however, realises the seriousness of the crime when her husband is suspected of aiding her and will lose his position. "The Sheriff’s Duty,” and "Beneath the Coat of a Butler" were also pictures of a high order, and were shown equally well. Another star programme is announced for next Saturday.
