Three Terrible Accidents.
GRANDSTAND COLLAPSES. New York, Aug. 27. A grandstand collapsed at, Elgin, Illinois, during an automobile contest, a thousand persons being involved in the accident. Three hundred were injured, and a panic started. The police and soldiers used their clubs on the terrified people who streamed over the course in front of the racing cars. Many were injured, a large number fatally, THIRTY KILLED. New York, Aug. 27. A passenger train on the Lehigh Valley railroad jumped the track. Two cars roll jd over the embankment and fell 60 feet into a creek. Thirty persons were killed and sixty injured. All the occupants of the dining car were killed instantly. Many veterans returning from the Grand Army encampment held at Rochester were among the victims. The train was running fast to make up lost time. A defective rail caused the disaster. TEN KILLED. London, Aug. 27. A motor charabanc was conveying 38 choristers near Oonsett when the brakes failed and the vehicle dashed downhill at a terrific pace and collided with a tree. Five men and five women were killed, and two girls are in a precarious condition. The remainder were injured.
