CARNIVAL TO BE HELD IN HAVELOCK.

There was only a moderate attendance at the Post Office Hotel on Saturday to arrange for the holding of the usual axemen’s carnival at Havelock.

Mr Taylor was voted to the chair, and explained that last year’s capmval was not a financial success, though outside the secretary's bonus (which has not been paid) only a few shillings were owing. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Fivash and Burn, that a carnival be held at Havelock, and Mr Lovell moved, and Mr F. Warner seconded* that the gathering take place on Thursday, 26th October. The election of officers was then proceeded with, Mr H. H. Harris being re elected president; a strong committee were also appointed. Mr Taylor having resigned the secretaryship,.Mr F. Warner was appointed to that position. Mr F, E. Hardy is to be asked to do the handicapping for the carnival.

The following programme was then drawn up, the prize money totalling £SO: —

15-inch Underhand Maiden Chop

First prize £3, second 20s, third 5s

18-inch Double-handed Maiden Saw. — First prize £3, second 20s, third 10s. 18-inch Standing Chop Handicap.— First prize £7, second £2, third £l.

18-incb Double-handed Saw Handicap. —First prize £5, second £2, third £l. 18-inch Underhand Chop Handicap.— First prize £7, second £2, third 20s. 18-inch Single-handed Saw Handicap. —First prize £3, second 20s, third 10s. 15-inch Underhand Handicap Chop, for Brownlee and Co.’s employees only. —First prize £4, second 30s, third 10s. 15-inch Boys’ Handicap Chop, 16 years and under.—First prize 255, second 15s, third ss.

15-iuch Tradesmen’s Chop.—First prize 30s, second 10a, third ss.

Nominations close with the secretary, at Havelock, on 18th Septemper.

Handicaps will appear in the Peiorus Guardian on Friday, 26th September. Acceptances close with the Secretary, at Havelock, 9th October.

Innovations in the programme are a tradesmen’s chop, a bays’ chop, and a chop for Brownlee and Co.’s employees. It was resolved that members’ tickets at 5s each be printed, and that subscribers of 5s and upwards be given a ticket to admit two to the carnival. A ball is to be held in the Town Hall in the evening. The programmes will be issued in a few days. THE WHANGARAE CARNIVAL. The following handicaps were omitted from the list published:—C- E, Jones, Underhand 30, 15 inch standing 20 ; A. Thompson, isincb standing 30; W. Stuart and O. E. Jones a r e also in the Consolation chop.
