A Prisoner Escapes.
Invercargill, April 12. A prisoner named Joseph Christie, 17 years of age, who was recently sentenced to a. term of imprisonment by the Supreme Court in Dunedin for breaking and entering and theft, jumped from this afternoon’s express train when passing Woodlands. The prisoner and another (who is serving five years) were in charge of principal Warder Kearney, who allowed Christie (at his request) to go to the lavatory, but instead of doing so tbe prisoner opened the door of the carriage and leaped out. It is reported that Christie landed on his feet, and that he made ofl. In no time he was lost to view, The prison authorities on being acquainted with the escape took steps to effect his re-capture. Motor oars were employed to reach the scene without delay. Christie has escaped no less than .four times from the Burnham In dustrial School. So far there is no news of his capture.
