PASTORAL RUNS.

PAYMENT FOR IMPROVEMENTS. In the "Wash-up" Bill passed by Parliament on Saturday the following provisions appear regarding payment for improvements made by lessees of pastoral runs : " Whereas it is desirable to make better provision for the disposal of pastoral runs and for the payment by the incoming tenant in respect of improvements on such runs, the licenses of which are being re-offered at auction : Be it therefore enacted as follows; i. The value of any improvements made on any run by the lessee or licensee may be repaid to such lessee or licensee at the expiry of his lease or license out of any sum appropriated by Parliament for such purpose. ,

When a tun on > which there are any improvements which have been paid for as aforesaid is re-let under similar or different tonore, the value of those improvements shall be paid for by the incoming tenant either by way of one cash payment as provided in sections 72, 73, and 244 of the Land Act, 1908, or in the manner provided in section 57 of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, with respect to the value of buildings. 3. The Governor may, however, cause the value of the aforesaid improvements to be added 10 the unimproved value of the run instead of beijg paid for by the incoming tenant under the preceding subsection, and in such case the incoming tenant shall not acquire any ownership in the said improvements. 4. Where a pastoral run is subdivided prior to its being re-offered or re-let, the value of improvements shall b 9 apportioned amongst such subdivisions in such manner as the Minister of shall determine,. 5. When tije license of a pastoral run is being re-offered the Government may' cause the same to be disposed of either by auotido under Part VI of the Land Aot, 1908, or on application at suoh yearly rent as the Board, subject to the approval of tha Governor, thinks fit, in a similar manner to the disposal of leases of small grazing runs on application :

Provided that the lioense shall contain all the provisions of Part VI with regard to payment of rent or the fulfilment of conditions, and shall not contain any of the provisions of Part V respecting the occupation of lands. 6, The term 'pastoral run' as used in this section means a pastoral run under Part VI of the Land Act, 1908, or under the corresponding provisions or any former Land Act."
