CANVASTOWN NEWS.

(From our Correspondent). Owing to the circus performing here on Saturday, and to the absence of Mr Spear, secretary of tbe Debating Society, the debate on “Town and Country Life” was postponed. Rev. Mr Bryant not having been informed of the postponement came up, having been invited to speak at the debate, and had to stay all night at Canvastowu. When he went to hold service in the Wesleyan Church at 11 a.in. he found the building locked, and after waiting an hour and finding neither key nor congregation he had to proceed to Carluke for his afternoon service there. Mr Hollis Hill held service in St. Paul’s (Anglican) Church on Sunday evening, and a fair congregation attended . Our footballers’ pride received a severe shock, but Mr Spear’s victory caused much rejoicing at Carluke and Canvastown. McMahon’s Circus did good business here, but no one tackled the outlaws.
