FROM INDIA.
- A good example of the working of the Eastern mind may be fitly found in the following story : A train had just stopped at an important station on the E.I. Railway, and one of the passengers, observing a native "tester" passing from carriage to carriage striking the wheels with his hammer, calkd out to him, "Why do you beat the wheels like that ?" "It isi the order of authority," was the imperturbable answer. "But what is the use of striking the wheels ?"■ persisted the passenger. "Heaven knows ! I havo done so for thirty years.. It is the order 01 authority,."
