CATTLE FOR SOUTH AFRICA
Carterton, January 18. Replying to the member for the Wairarapa, the Premier says he will recommend Lord Milner to place an order in this Colony for young cattle, but fears the price will bebar purchases being made. SENSATIONAL INCIDENT. Woodville, January 18. Three boys named Gibbons, aged 12, nine and seven, sons of an old settler here/have been arrested for attempting to poison their father. Gibbons made tea for himself on Wednesday morning, and, although he noticed a peculiar taste and smell with it, continued drinking. Shortly after he suffered from internal pains, and luckily was very sick. On investigation he found a qumtity of aconite amongst the dry tea. The aconite was kept in the house, ?nd used in the treatment of cows. The boys were not at home, and on search being made were/ound camped on Mr Ormond's property, two miles from Woodville. Besides other provisions they had eight geese in their possession. The boys admitted putting aconite n the tea.
