This afternoon, Andrew and Joseph Kennedy, Joseph Jewett and Robert Gawn were charged with the murder of Louie Smith. Dr Ewart, of the hospital, consider! that the wounds
sustained by Smith would not id a healthy person necessarily have caused death, but might have done so. There was no opium given her in the hospital, but morphia was injected twice. Brandy was also administered. Marguerita Cora Ratigan, a nurse at the hospital, said that Smith told her that her wounds were the result of pure accident. The patient had a craving for opium. Andrew Kennedy and Joseph Jewett were committed for trial on a charge of murder, Joseph Kennedy and Robert Gawn being discharged from custody.
