CHARGE OF POISONING
Napier, June 22. After a trial which lasted two days, the jury acquitted John Restall, who was charged with poisoning nine employees at Patoka station. It will be remembered that at the last sessions Restall was put on his trial, but on that occasion the jury could not agree. The jury tacked a rider to their verdict to the effect that poison kept on stations should be kept more carefully guarded under lock and key, and charge of the managers only. TARANAKI OIL. New Plymouth, June 22. A cable message has been received from Mr Fair, at Sydney, ordering the boring plant to be removed from Motoura to Mace’s property at Omata. Men started work this morning to carry out the orders, and boring is expected to be commenced in about three weeks’ time. GOOD DIVIDEND. Wellington June 22. The Directors of the New Zealand Insurance Company have declared an interim dividend for the past half-year at the rate of 12J per cent, per annum. A similar dividend was declared for the corresponding of last year.
