ACTIONS FOR DAMAGES. Sydney, June 22. The trial of actions in respect to the Redfern railway accidents have commenced. Counsel for the Commissioners admitted that the accident was by negligence, and that the only question to be decided was as to the amount of compensation. Mrs Coward claimed £IO,OOO for the loss of her husband, and obtained a verdict for £2,750 ; Mrs M'Kenzie, claiming £5,000 lor the loss of her husband, was awarded £2,000; representatives of a boy named Hackett, claiming £2,000, were awarded £3OO. The case in which the executors of David Jones claim £30,000 is being heard. STOCK EXPORT. Adelaide, June 22. Messrs Kiddock have shipped 10 bullocks and 100 sheep by the steamer Echuca, which is the first shipment of live stock sent from this Colony to London. STRIKE OF SLAUGHTERMEN. Sydney, June 21. Sixty slaughtermen in the Sydney Meat Preserving Works have struck owing to the employment of non-Unionists. BRANDING OF MEAT. Sydney, June 22. A deputation from meat exporters asked the Minister for Agriculture that all meat exported might be officially inspected and branded as a guarantee that it was free of disease. 'J he Minister replied that recent events in the English market impressed him with the necessity of such a course, and he promised favourable consideration of the matter. FROZEN MEAT. Melbourne, June 22. The agents of the Eastern Australian Steamship Company have notified the Content that they have fitted three steamers with small refrigerating space, and are prepared to carry a limited quantity of frozen produce to the Chinese and Japanese markets at the rate of a penny per pound. They intimate that they are also prepared to carry a few live stock with a view to testing the Eastern markets.
