ACTIONS FOR DAMAGES. Sydney, June 22. The trial of actions in respect to the Redfern railway accidents have commenced. Counsel for the Commissioners admitted that the accident was by negligence, and that the only question to be decided was as to the amount of compensation. Mrs Coward claimed £IO,OOO for the loss of her husband, and obtained a verdict for £2,750 ; Mrs M'Kenzie, claiming £5,000 lor the loss of her husband, was awarded £2,000; representatives of a boy named Hackett, claiming £2,000, were awarded £3OO. The agents of the Eastern Australian Steamship Company have notified the Content that they have fitted three steamers with small refrigerating space, and are prepared to carry a limited quantity of frozen produce to the Chinese and Japanese markets at the rate of a penny per pound. They intimate that they are also prepared to carry a few live stock with a view to testing the Eastern markets.
