ROAD BOARD.

Saturday 19th April 1873. The Board met at 2 o’clock. Present —Messrs. Poynter (Chairman) Johnson, Westrup, and King. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Letters—A letter was received from Mr. Dalziell, informing the Board of his intention to open the Pound from the 18th inst. Mr. Hall communicated with the Board, drawing attention to the bad state of the middle road to Ormond from the Matawhero road. The Secretary was instructed to inform Mr. Hall that the Engineer would inspect and report to them on the matter before anything definite could be arrived at.

Mr. Cameron addressed a suggestion to the Chairman to the effect that the Board should form a road from Patutahi crossing tc the Mill Bush. After some discussion it was decided that Mr. King should see Mr. Cameron on the matter.

A letter was received from Mr. Caulton calling attention to the state of the Muhunga creek. The Board deferred a further consideration of this question until its next meeting. Mr. Daly appeared in reference to the taking of gravel from the beach. The Board agreed to allow Mr. Daly to take gravel from the place pointed out by Mr. King, on the conditions that he deposits a load of soft rock on the wharf road, for which he is to be allowed 5s for spreading. The Secretary to inform Mr. Daly of the Board’s permission. Mr. Tucker interviewed the Board and pointed out that he had no access to his land at the Native Reserve near the Gaol Reserve, but that by a drain being cut from the swamp at the end of Disraeli street to the Waikanae, means of approach would be given to him, and the whole of that portion of the Township would be drained. The matter was referred to the Engineer for his report. Tenders : —Messrs.* Stevenson and Pritchard tendered for cutting drain in Palmerston street. The latter was accepted at 10s 6d per chain. Robert Craig’s tender for the completion of contract E, (left unfinished by Mr. Eiffe) for the sum of £56 12s was accepted. The Board was adjourned to Saturday the 26th inst.
