PUBLIC MEETING.

The public meeting convened by Mr Rees for the purpose of meeting the farmers and producers of the districtand laying a scheme before them for the purpose of organising a company for the export of neat and other produce to outside markets, met at Ferris’ Auction Mart on Saturday morning. There were about twenty present but owing to the convener and the Chairman (Mr A. McDonald) and others, having to attend before the Registrar on the Makauri case, the meeting was adjourned until Wednesday evening at the same place. The following are the proposals to be laid before the meeting by Mr Rees :— 1. That the settlers and farmers of this district be invited to join the New Zealand Co-operative Land and Labor Co. (Limit* d), for the purpose of opening and sustaining shops in Auckland, and in the suburbs of Auckland, for the sale of meat and other produce. 2. That a sufficient number of shares, say 5000 be subscribed for by the settlers and farmers in this district to be paid for partly in money and partly in kind at the option of the intending shareholder. 3. That five directors be appointed from among the farmers and settlers to aid in the local management of the Company. 4. That meanwhile a Committee of seven be appointed to enquire into the advisability of such steps being taken and as to the feasability of the plan proposed : such Commitee to report at an adjourned meeting to be held this day week at the same time and place ; and to report aiso as to the best and most equitable plan for the purchasing of stock from the producers.
