On Saturday last a deputation, headed by Messrs E. K. Brown and W. Adair, waited upon Major Porter, asking him to allow himsel, to be nominated for the office of M tyor for the.easuing year, and promising him their hearty support in the event of his standing. Every resident in the Bay will cordially agree with Mr Dickson’s motion at the Harbor Board meeting on Tuesday evening, asking that the seats which were erected on the foreshore by the late Mayor (Major Porter) and which have been broken and overthrown by the larrikin element,which unfortunately is so strong amongst us, be repaired, and turfed round with grass sods. The cost would be but trifling, whilst the benefit to the public would be great. The Waimata Road Board met on Tuesday afternoon. Present : Messrs Ferris (in the chair), Coleman and Trimmer. The Poverty Bay Road Board offered to give 1.3 for hand rails on the Makauri bridge, but declined to contribute anything towards Collins Street Bridge. It was decided that the rails should be fixed and that Collins Street Bridge be temporarily repaired. The Board being desirous to form the upper part ot Fox Street, it was decided to write to the residents asking what amount they were willing tocontribute towards the estimated cost of the work (L4B). Mr O’Ryan forwarded plans and estimates of drains, culverts, and bridges on the Te Hapara (3) block. This matter was left over until Tuesday next. Accounts to the amount of Ll 4 8s 9d were passed.
