(OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Melbourne, Oct. 10. The first day’s races of the Amateur Turf Club's Caulfied Cup meeting took place on Saturday. The weather was miserably wet, and there was only a moderate attendance of the public. His Excellency Lord Augustus Loftus, Governor of New South Wales, was present during the afternoon. The following were the results of the principal event of the day :— Caulfield Guineas. —l mile, Ringmaster ... ... 1 Dunlop 2 Eagle Grange ~ 3 Eight horses started for this event' Ringmaster held the first position throughout, aad came in an easy winner, Monte Christo was fourth. Time 1 min 49 secs.
