SPORTING.
(OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Napier, Friday. The second day’s racing in connection with the Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was held yesterday. For the Hurdle Race eleven horses started, but after going about three-quarters of a mile Chambers, who was riding Faugh-a-Ballagh, took the wrong course, and eight others followed him, leaving Maccaroni and Loch Lomond to fight it out, the former winning by two lengths. During the race a jockey named Morris was thrown, breaking his collar bone and one of his ribs. The Spring Handicap was won by Pasha, with Administrator second, and Pearl third. Rumor appropriated the Maiden Plate, and Miss Dargon the Consolation. /4902 was passed through the totalisator.
Newstead has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup and Derby. Umbra and Manchester are also scratched for the Cup, Trenton has been backed to win the Melbourne Cup at 100 to 7. The weights for the Poverty Bay Turf Club Spring Meeting will be declared on Monday neid,
