(own correspondent.) Wellington. Friday. In the Council on Wednesday the Property Assessment Bill and Counties Act Amendment Bill were read a second time. The Hospitals and Charitable Aid Bill, Rating Act Amendment Bill, Property Law Consolidation Bill, and Gisbon.e High School Bill were read a third, time and passed. The Justices of the Peace Bill passed throiugh committee with amendments. Chi Thursday the Public Revenue Bill and Public Works Bill was read a eeejed time. through committee, and the Council rose at 9.30. In the House on Wednesday Mr Stout introduced a Bill to amend the Municipal Corporations Act.

The debate was resumed on Captain Russell’s amendment on the motion fo going into committee of supply, “that the public works estimates be reduced £500,000,’' and a further amendment by Mr Moss, “ that it is not advisable to suddenly stop the public works ilready 111 progress.” Alter considerable debate the amendment by Mr Moss was negatived on the voices. Captain Russell’s amendment was discussed at great length. Mr O Callaghan moved the addition of the following words : —“ Provided such reduction shall not affect any public works of the nature of roads and bridges.” At 2.30 the debate was adjourned, and the House rose. On Thursday the business of the afternoon was unimportant. The evening sitting was occupied with the resumed debate on Captain Russell’s amendment. At 1.15 the debate was adjourned and the House rose. This afternoon the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill was read a second time. This Bill makes provision respecting Borough Councillors selling goods to Borough authorities. The debate on Captain Russell's resolution was resumed.
