The Friendly Societies refused to form a procession on the occasion of the opening of the Home Industry branch of the Exhibition. The idea of moving a Want of Confidence resolution has been abandoned at any rate until after the delivery of the Financial Statement. The first section of the WellingtonManawatu Railway, from Wellington to Paramatta, will be opened for traffic on September 24th. In the House this afternoon the Minister for Public Works stated he would deliver his statement on Tuesday next. Dunedin, Friday. It is rumored here that two large commercial houses are in temporary difficulties, but it is believed that they will be able to arrange. Auckland, Friday. A man named Whiteman was brought into Cambridge, Waikato, having lost his way going from Taupo to Fort Galatea. He wandered about for fourteen days till he reached Ohinemutu. He is not expected to recover, being in a weak state of health.

A boxing match took place here on Wednesday night last between R. Matthews and W. Wilkinson for aside, and the championship of New Zealand. It was won by Matthews. At a Court of Enquiry held yesterday into the wounding of Lieutenant "Woodfield, of the Auckland Cavalry, at the Waverly Hotel, while in the company of Captain Seccombe and Instructor Smith. The Court decided that the wounding was purely accidental, and that it occurred during sword exercise.

Antoni Guschnell, the lunatic who killed an armed constabulary man at Taranaki, and also Mills, a patient in the Auckland Asylum, two years ago, hanged himself in Auckland. He broke the wire on which the sashes of the windows hung, and tied his neck, drawing it tight until he strangled himself to death.

Blenheim, Friday. Mr Hornby, proprietor of the Marlboro Times, has been fined 10s to-day for publishing an extra without an imprint.
