WELLINGTON STEEPLECHASE 1 MEETING. ACCIDENT TO BILLY-GO-BY-’EM (own correspondent.) Wellington, Monday. The first Steeplechase Meeting under the auspices of the Racing Club, took place on Saturday. The weather was fine, and the sport excellent. There were about 1,500 present, including many members of the Legislature. The course was rather soft in some places, but otherwise in good condition. The following are the results :— Trial Steeplechase of 80 sovs.; about 2} miles. Faugh-a-ballagh r Bobbie ... 2 Two others also started, but the two placed horses were the only ones who finished. Faugh-a-ballagh won by about four lengths, hard held. Handicap Hurdles of 100 sovs.; 1 miles. Erebus 1 Ravenswood 2 Quilp 3 Seven others also ran. Billy-go-by-’em, who was one of these, fell at the hurdle on the far side of the course, and Miroi jumped on him, the result being that Billy got his leg broken, and had to be destroyed.
