(own correspondent.) Napier, Monday. A Cat Show is to be held here in August in conjunction with the Poultry and Canary Show. Auckland, Monday. A Maori girl, aged 13, committed suicide at Wainui, because her father would not let her marry a young Maori with whom she had been cohabiting. The search for the missing schooner, both by the steamer Suva and tug Awhine, has been unsuccessful. Christchurch, Monday. A Dog Show will be held here next month. At a meeting of householders in the East Christchurch district on Friday night, a resolution was carried, heartily approving of Bible reading in schools, if it could be done consistently with the Education Act. Dunedin, Monday. The Women’s Temperance Union have purchased a building in which they intend holding meetings for the instruction of boys and girls, and for giving temporary shelter to the homeless, and for a refuge for persons just out of prison, until they get employment.
