THE SPORTS QUEEN

SELECTION NEXT WEEK CENTENNIAL CARNIVAL Sports bodies of the Gisborne district have agreed to give enthusiastic support to a sports queen in the centennial queen carnival, and one candidate will be selected at a meeting to bo held on Tuesday evening. A meeting of sports delegates called by the Thirty-thousand Club's carnival sub-committee was held on Thursday evening to discuss the appointment of either one or two queen candidates. Mr. W. Kohn outlined the purpose of the meeting, and Mr. F. R. Ball, chairman of the Thirty-thousand Club’s queen Carnival committee, explained the aims and objects- of the effort.

Those present decided to form themselves into a sports queen, committee, and elected Mr. H. P. Hamilton, the boxing representative, .to the chair. Others, present were:—Mr. G. H. Sweats, Rugby; Messrs. T. W. Bayliss and F. R. Bould, Park Golf Club; Messrs. Jackson and A. Slight, bowling; Mr. P. H. Dow, cricket; Mr. K. Morse, swimming; Mr. E. Clayton, athletics; Mesdames Henderson and Somerville, croquet; Misses C. Meade and N. Henderson, basketball. It was decided .to add the names of Messrs. K. R. Waite and. E. Woodrow to the committee.

The meeting agreed that only one candidate should be selected to represent the sporting interests, and that a selection should be made on Tuesday evening.
