AMATEUR OPERATICS

"CINGALEE" PRODUCTION PLANS FOP SEPTEMBER MEETING OF SOCIETY Activities will be resumed this year by the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society, with a production of the tuneful and humorous operetta, "The Cingalee."

Preliminary arrangements for this production, were confirmed at the annual meeting of the society, held last evening, when Mrs. Mcßeath, a well-known producer who has acted for other New Zealand societies in recent months, .and who is a sister of Carrie Moore, one of the original cast with which "The Cingalee" was produced in London, was appointed 'o supervise the Gisborne production.

The annual meeting was not largely attended, owing to" the weather conditions, 'but much interest was shown in the prospect of a further public effort. No report was submitted for the past year, in which the society was not active, but the statement of accounts showed a 'healthy credit balance.

The officers of the past year were re-elected. 'Mr. H. B. Williams as patron, Mr. J. Blair as president. Messrs. J. S. Wauchop. F. Tolerton, H. Kenway and C. G. Bayliss as vicepresidents, and Messrs. A. J. Nicol, W. G. Bignell, C. V. Harre, Jas. Chriso, W. Kohn, A. C. Coleman. W. B. Keany, and W. J. Sinclair as committee members, with Mr. M. L. Foster as hon. secretary. Mr. Nicol was appointed chairman of the committee.

Much satisfaction was expressed with the prospects of "The Cingalee,' and with the society's good fortune in having 'the services of Mrs. Mcßeath available for the production. The operetta is light and breezy, and gives excellent scope for amateur talent such as the society has at its disposal.

It was decided to commence rehearsals early in June, when an adequate supply of vocal scores will be in hand.
