HYDATID PREVENTION
DOSING OF DOGS ADVICE OF EXPERT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The compulsory use of arecolinc hydrobromide as a preventive of hydatids was discussed by the Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and after Mr. H. F. Herbert, Canterbury, had stated that more explicit instructions were to be given to dog-owners about, the method of administering (he drug, letters from the Canterbury and Wellington societies were received.
Mr. Herbert .said that Dr. Bennett, of the department of hydatid research and prevention, when consulted, had said that a lot of trouble arose from people giving too large doses, as the instructions were not quite clear on the point. Sheep-dogs and working dogs needed two'tablets, ordinary nonworking dogs one, and small dogs only half a tablet.
The conference was presided over by the president,'Mr. Clyde Carr, M.P. A deputation from the executive is to wait on the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, to stress the importance of the Animals Anaesthetic Bill, prepared by (the federation for the consideration of the House.
