GISBORNE CHAMPIONS s SENIOR POURS TITLE The Gisborne Bowling Club's rep- - resentatives won the Gisborne-East ; Coast Bowling Centre's senior rink competition on Monday afternoon, gaining the title of champion of . champions for the 1939 season. Four centre titles have been de- ,, cided now and Gisborne has taken ' the senior fours and the intermediate pairs, Kahutia the intermediate f fours, and Poverty Bay the senior , pairs. Next Saturday a further series of championships will be played on the Kahutia green, when the titles at stake will be the senior, intermediate v and junior championship singles. Play in the champion of champion fours competition reached the third . round on Saturday, March 11, and the competition was continued last ' Saturday, when the games resulted:— , Fourth Round Fredericks, Falconer, Slight, Mc- • Kenzie (s), Poverty Bay, 24 v. 11. Buckingham, McGrannachan, Manuel > and A. Buckingham (s), Te Karaka, , 10. Gisborne won by default from Wairoa. ! Fifth Round Surgenor, O'Brien, Park and Stephenson (s), Gisborne, 23 v. Te Karaka, ; 5. Poverty Bay, a bye. At the conclusion of the fifth round Poverty Bay and Gisborne had each had four wins and the two teams ' met on Monday afternoon in the final, which was won by the Gisborne team, , 20—11. When Stephenson established a substantial lead early in the game McKenzie commenced an uphill fight, but he did hot succeed in drawing level at any stage.
