ROAD WORK DELAYED

SHORTAGE OF WATER BOROUGH COUNCIL PLIGHT TRAFFIC INCONVENIENCED The shortage of water in the Gisborne Borough supply system has had repercussions .in -the council’s reading maintenanee programane. Some inconvenience has been caused to traffic because of rough surfaces of metalled' roads, and! repairs cannot be accomplished satisfactorily unless there is an adequate supply of water, which is ait present unavailable because of the economy measures thecouncil has had to institute. .A brief summary of the council’s difficulties in this respect was given by the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. “The rough condition of the waterbound 1 macadam .roads in the borough, including Kahutia, Cobden, Carnarvon, Disraeli and 1 several other such constructed roadways, is causing inconvenience to vehicular traffic,” Mr. Thomas stated.

"The water shortage is responsible for the condition of these streets, for the patching of such constructed roads requires water for the binding of metal filters, and' until rain falls water is not .available for such maintenance work. "The condition of these roads is now such that patching is not advisable, and it is intended to scarify and relay them as soon as possible."
