CRASH IN RAVINE NEW BOEING PLANE TRAGIC DIVE IN.TEST STRATOSPHERE MACHINE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) . (Reed. March 20, 2.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 20. A message from Alder, Washington, states that the Boeing Aircraft Company's new £IOO,OOO experimental four-motored stratoliner crasheo. during a test, killing all of the 11 occupants, two of whom were Dutch air line officials, namely, P. Guilonard and A. G. von Baumauer. The remainder were Boeing Company engineers, pilots and mechanics. Witnesses said that the plane seemed to come apart when it dropped out of the clouds. It fell in a ravine with a terrific crash which was heard two miles away. Witnesses heard the fierce whine of the motors, indicating that the plane was power-diving. 1. the midst of the dive either the winfe or the tail crumpled. The plane was the commercial conception of the army's flying fortresses. It was designed to carry 32 passengers in a sealed super-charged cabin at an altitude of 20,000 ft. and a speed of 300 miles an hour. The wing-spreao was 107 ft. in length and 74ft. l width. The weight was 42,0001 b.
