LOCKED IN BATHROOM
EIGHT MEN IN HOTEL PORTER FINED £6 (Pet Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The finding of eight men hidden in a locked bathroom of the Gresham Hotel by a police sergeant who visited the premises, led to the conviction of Stanley Carter, a porter, before the magistrate, Mr. J. H. Luxford, in the Magistrate's Court on March 3. The magistrate, in a reserved judgment delivered to-day, found him guilty of obstructing the police and, in imposing a fine of £0 and costs, he said the defendant acted solely with the intention of preventing the police from obtaining the necessary evidence to prove that certain persons were found on the premises. The evidence was also sufficient to support a conviction for inciting or encouraging eight persons to obstruct the police.
