COLLEGIATE CRICKET

WIN FOR NAPIER B.H.S. FIRST-INNINGS DECISION RAIN HOLDS UP PLAY Rain held up play in the second innings of the annual cricket match between the Gis-borne High School and Napier Boys High School, played on Friday and Saturday in Napier. In consequence, the game was decided on the first innings, in favour of . Napier, who had a of 28 runs on the first. The Gisb6rne team might have come out on top had the game gone to the full distance, for they made i\ good recovery in the .second innings, putting 157 runs on the board and leaving Napier with 130 runs needed to win outright. The Napier second innings started badly, and at one stage five wickets were down for 'l4 runs, and the next Wicket only added 19. , Rain began to fall at that stage, however, and the Qisborne bowlers were unable to do much on the wicket, the batsmen, Dean and Kelly, sending the score along to 95 before the increasing rain caused the abandonment of the innings. Dean was 56 not out when play ceased. In Gisborne's second innings, T. Roderick was the most successful batsman, making 52, while W. Toroa, 27 and R. Torrie, 26, also helped substantially. H. Lee and N. Kane bo.th. batted well, for 16 and 15 respectively. ■ Details of the later play were as under: — GISBORNE HIGH First Innings 67 Second Innings yi. Toroa, c Barlow, b Temperton 27 T.
