SHORTAGE OF EGGS
GISBORNE POSITION DEMAND EXCEEDS SUPPLY In common with Hawke's Bay towns, Gisborne is suffering from a shortage of eggs att.d one of the most popular visitors to any grocer's shop is Mvj person who can offer for sale eggs in any quantity. The usual demand for eggs exists, out grocers are experiencing some difficulty in meeting all the orders, despite their efforts lo secure a good source of supply. Position in Wellington In direct contrast to the Gisborne position, it is reported from Wellington that the demand for eggs in the capital fell away at 'the week-end to such an extent that the Internal Marketing Department was obliged to reduce the wholesale price of eggs from ;hree to five pesice per dozen. The present retail price is :o excess of that usually ruling at this time of the year. The shortage is attributed to a variety of causes, principally to tha fact that the ranks of poultry .have been depleted of late on account of the high cost of fowl feed.
