ENGAGED TO THREE GIRLS
MINER SENT TO GAOL LONDON, Jan. 20. "Don Juan" exploits of tall,. darkhaired Walter Evans, described by a detective at the Old Bailey yesterday, were:—Engaged, to three girls at the same time; "married".. three. times (once legally); suspected of a third bigamy. In sentencing Evans, 39-year-old Welsh miner, to 15 months' imprisonment for fraud, the Recorder, Mr. Gerald Dobson, said: "I have nothing! to do with your eccentricities with regard to women, nor can I follow the various complexities of your twisted life." Evans pleaded guilty to converting £240 givpn to him by Miss Florence Amy Flint, a Pimlico. London, domestic servant, to invest in a restaurant venture at Peckham for the pair to run together after marriage. Miss Flint parted with more than £3OO to Evans—practically the whole of her life savings. Detective-Sergeant Bampton, of Scotland Yard, said that while Evans was planning to marry Miss Flint he was arranging to marry a girl in Harrogate. He had also promised to marry a girl at Lancaster. He was legally married in March, 1920, had committed bigamy in 1932 at Islington, and again at Paddington in 1934 lor which he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The sergeant added that Scotland Yard were searching for a third woman he is suspected of bigamously marrying in. Wales. Evans' correct name was said to be William Thomas Mitchell.
