REPAIRING A MARAE
A JOB FOR THE MAORIS MINISTER'S SUGGESTION. (Special to the Herald.) .WAIROA, this dap v "Over £4,000,000 has been spent in the interests of the Maori people and they should be well enough off themselves to do the repairs to the marae,? replied the Hon. F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, to a request at 'Mohaka from the natives asking for assistance from some funds, probably the unemployment fund, for repairing and putting into good condition the marae at Mohaka, and: renovating the Whare Porotiti Hall. The Minister added that the sooner the Maoris woke up to the fact and got busy on that class of work the better the Government and himself as Minister would be pleased. It was no good for them to say they could go to the Government and it would hand money out for the marae.-They as the Maori people must face up to those difficulties.
