SWIMMING CONTESTS
MERCANTILE RELAYS SUCCESS OF P. .AND T. TITLE WON BY CLAY The staffs of mercantile and other •firms in Gisborne were entered for last evening at a swimming carnival conducted at the Macrae Bath by the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club. There was a good attendance of the public, who saw the Post and Telegraph Nos. 2 and 1 teams come first and second respectively in tlie final of the mercantile relay. Forty teams competed in the event, the winners annexing the Hautanon Cup. In the sole championship event on the programme, that J'or the intermediate boys of the Gisborne club, R. Clay proved the winner after a strong finish. The final distance for the Lockie Cup was won by R. Wallace, who also won the cup. The Charlie Adair Memorial Cup race over a distance of 150yds. was won by K. Morse off 4sec. During the programme a team of divers gave an appreciated exhibit tion of \vork from the high and low boards, the divers being Miss N. Henderson, and R. Liver, H. Wall, I. •Tuson and H. Patterson. The final event of the carnival was a water-polo match between teams representing the Gisborne club and the* Wainui Surf Life-saving Club, Gisborne winning by four goals to nil.
