SUCCESSFUL SEASON
CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB FOURTH SPILLANE CUR A successful season, in which the hub won the Spillane Cup for the second year in succession, in addition to sharing senior grade honours with 1i.5.0.8., is reviewed in the annual report of the Celtic Football Club, which will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday evening. The Celtic Club has taken part in six Spillane Cup tournaments, an annual tournament open to all teams affiliated to the New Zealand Marist Rugby Football Association, and on .'our occasions has been successful in winning the trophy. In addition to sharing the senior championship with High School Old Boys, the Celts reached the final of the Premier Cup, being defeated by the vastly improved Marist team. The junior team was runner-up in its grade, suffering its only defeat at the hands of the redoubtable Old Boys B team, winners of the grade title. Junior representatives during the season were Kearns, Hardgraves, ind R. McKinley. For the first time since 192 G the third grade team was successful in winning the grade championship, their success being in no small measure due to the excellent coaching of George Murland. The fourth grade team suffered through lack of players. Prompt payment of subscriptions has resulted in the club being in a very strong financial position, this materially assisting in the matter of travelling expenses for touring teams. The thanks of the club are exoressed to the Poverty Bay Rugbv Union, the St. John Ambulance, the Referees’ Association, Dr. W. A. Bowie, Messrs. George Dunn and G. Murland for coaching the junior and L hird grade teams respectively, to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Bailey, and to all supporters.
