PIPE BAND CONTEST
TIMARU WINS A GEADE B GRADE TO MANAWATU (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Dominion pipe band contest was decided during the week-end. Timaru Highland won the A grade championship, and the Manawatu Scottish Society's band the B grade. Thirteen bands competed and features of the contest were the street march, which was watched by a large crowd on Saturday and drum-major's display at the Showgrounds yesterday, the latter being most impressive and attracting 18,000 people. The placings in the individual events were: — A Grade Quickstep.—Timaru 1; Ruahine 2; City of Christchurch 3. Own selection.—City of Christchurch 1; Ruahine 2; Timaru 3. Drum Major's display.—Ruahine 1; Timaru 2; City of Christchurch 3. B Grade Quickstep.—-Manawatu 1; Canterbury Caledonian 2; Gore 3. Own Selection.—Manawatu 1; Gore 2; Temuka 3. Drum-Major's display. Manawatu 1; Gore 2. The street march in both grades was won by Wanganui, with Timaru second and Ruahine third*.
