DOMINION TITLES SHARPLEY'S TRIPLE WIN NEW 220 HURDLES TIME QTJINN BEATEN IN I'OOYD'S. WELLINGTON'S SUCCESS (Por Press Association.) NAPIER, this day. In light rain, the New Zealand amateur athletic championships were concluded at McLean Park, Napior on Saturday. The track was heavy and the times for most events were not fast. The highlight of the meeting was the performance of P. F. Sharpley, Hawke's Bay, who won the 100yds. sprint, the 120yds. hurdles, and the 220yds. hurdles. In the 120yds. hurdles, Sharpley equalled his own New Zealand record and bettered the centre figures by eight-tenths of a second. The only record broken at the championships was the 220yds. hurdles, when Sharpley won in 25 l-ssec, bettering the standing figures of 25.45ec. which he established.

An innovation was the introduction of a marathon race. The winner was C. Gibbons (Olago). who covered the distance, 26 miles 385 yards, in 2hr 44min. 56 l-ssec.

The points shield was won by Well* ington centre with an aggregate of 35 points. The other centres were placed as follows:— Canterbury. 33; Otago, 28, Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay, 25; West Coast (N. 1.), 15: Auckland, 11. Speight's Cup, for the march past was won by Wellington. Pullar and Johnston then drew away from the field at one and a half miles. The leaders were alternately takiny the lead with two miles covered. With three laps to go the contest settled down to a duel between the two leaders. Johnston led Pullar by a yard at the bell, but in the back straight Pullar assumed the lead with a sudden spurt and finished strongly to win by 10 yards. One-mile Walk.—N. McCarthy (W.), 1; D.
