OBITUARY

.MRS. MARY ROW AS The death of Mrs. Mary Rowan occurred at her residence, 436 Wainui road, this morning after a long illness. Mrs. Rowan, who was born in Nelson in 1864, spent part of her early life in Christchureh. Later she resided in Australia, being in business in Melbourne for a number of years. In 1899 Mr. and Mrs. Rowan went tc South Africa,' arriving at Durban three months before the South African War. A few years afterwards they took up their residence on the Rand, Johannesburg, but on account of Mrs. Rowan's health they returned to their native land, finally settling in Gisborne. For many years Mrs. Rowan conducted a bookseller's shop in Gladstone road. Besides her husband, the deceased leaves one daughter. A service will be held in Cochranes' private chapel at 1.15 p.m. to-morrow, after which the funeral will leave for the Taruheru cemetery.
