WAIROA FAT LAMBS
FAVOURABLE COMMENT LONDON JUDGES’ REMARKS INDIVIDUAL PLACINGS (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Although not placed in the Home judging of the North Island district export lamb competition sponsored by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, Wairoa’s quota of fat lambs received very favourable comment by the London judges. The judges’ comments and placings for the Wairoa district’s exhibits were as follows: Pen No. 60, \V.ai station .. .. X Three exceedingly good lambs of suitable size, lean and fleshy. Ideal butcher’s meat.
Pen No. 2, A. T. Carroll Three excellent lambs, slightly heavier than pen No. 60, but a good type of lamb for the Smithfield trade.
Pen No. 14, Mrs. P. Carroll Three good lambs, but not quite so attractive for shape and make. Some showed slight falling away in' the- 'legs.
Remarks were also obtained from the London judges on pens which were placed in New Zealand on the hooks, but did not secure placings in the London Judging:—
Pen No. 11, Wairoa Flaxmills, Limited, was placed second in New Zealand, but was not placed in London because, although of good shape and make, two showed a slight weakness in the legs. Pen. No. 61, Onenui station, was placed third in New Zealand, but was not placed in London, because, although this pen contained two excellent lambs, the third was not of good shape and showed patchy fat on back. The following is the comparison of judging at the Show pens in Wairoa, on the hooks in Wairoa and the London judging.
