SWIMMING CARNIVAL

A record number of entries has been received for the carnival to ’be conducted on Monday evening at the Macrae Bath by the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club. The annual interhouse relay for the Ilautanoa Cup hag drawn entries from over 40 teams, which will necessitate the swimming of heats and semifinals.
On account of the fact that there will be over 200 swimmers competing on Monday evening special arrangements are being made in regard to dressing accommodation. Other events on the programme will include the 50yds. intermediate boys' championship and the handicap race over 150yds. for the Charlie Adair Memorial Cup. The carnival will conclude with a water-polo match between teams representing tire Gisborne club and the Wainui Surf Lifesaving Club. Advice has been received that the annual carnival to be conducted by the Ilautanoa Sports and Library Club at Te Puia will take place on Saturday, March 18 and swimmers intending to enter are to communicate with Mr. C. E. Brown.
The Stoneham Cup river race will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 1. The race will be over the mile course from the Roebuck road bridge to the Trafalga band rotunda.
