THREE CLUBS ENTER

The scullers and' oarsmen of three clubs, the Napier Rowing Club, Gisborne Rowing Club, and Poverty Bay Rowing Club, will! take part in the annual shield regatta, to be held this season on the Waipaoa River course oir Saturday, March 18. It is the first time for some years that the regatta has been awarded to Gisborne.

In tho past few seasons the shields have been competed for at Clive at the open regatta fixture. Oarsmen in the district will regret the absence of the Wairoa representatives from the nominations. The Wairoa Boating Club’s ictcws were always considered to be wortji while taking into account when other club men were discussing their respective chances of winning, and the club has had its share of the victories during the years of the competition. The regatta is an East Coast Rowing Association fixture, and keen rivalry is expected in connection with the L.V.A. Four-oar Shield especially. Poverty Bay being the holders. The Poverty Bay club also holds the Neill Shield for single ,sculling, and the Colley and Kirk Shield for double sculling. The Gisborne Rowing Club af present holds the Harris and Hill pair-oar shield. Since their return recently from the open regatta at Napier the representative crews have continued their training for the shield events, and should be in the pink of condition on Saturday week.
