EXPORT RESTRICTIONS
MR. COATES ON THE FACTS
(Special to thu Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day
“Despite Mr. Nash's attempt to avoid the original subject of discussion, the restriction on the export of our mutton and lamb, by references to beef and veal, lie cannot avoid being 1 brought face to face with three simply stated facts,” said the Rt. Plon. J. G. Coates, M.P., yesterday in reply to the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash. “These three facts,” Mr. Coates said, “are; (1) That the year after the Ottawa Agreement was signed we had the right to send 4,000,000 cwt. of mutton and lamb to Great Britain; (2) that under the Labour Government, with Mr. Nash as Minister of Marketing, restriction has been imposed on the quantity we may send; (3) that instead of Mr. Nash making a statement on the position at the earliest possible moment to the farmers with whose goods he is dealing and with whose welfare the country is vitally concerned, such information as he has given has had to be dragged from him by criticism.”
