Official statistics published yesterday indicated that Italy’s campaign for a higher birth rate is getting results. The figures showed the birth of 1,0.31,000 babies in 1938, equivalent to 23.6 per 1000 population. That compared with a ratio of 22.7 in 1937 and a pre-war ratio of 32.4. The population increased 424,394 for the year to 44,056,000. Premier Benito Mussolini has set a goal of 60,000,000 by 1960.
