MOHAKA BRIDGE REPAIRS

DAMAGED PORTION PROPOSAL PREPARED (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. ‘•Working in conjunction with the engineer of the Public Works Department, Mr. A. G. Harris, a definite proposal has been prepared and will be submitted to the district office of the department for the erection of the damaged portion of the Mohaka township bridge,” stated the engineer, Mr. R. W. Hawthorne, at the monthly meeting of the Wairoa County Council yesterday.

The engineer slated that three alternatives Were open for the erection of the bridge, the first being restoration in timber on timber piers. The second was the restoration in timber on concrete piers, and the third was concrete spans 55ft. in length on concrete piers. All the proposals provided for the lifting of the old portion of the 'bridge and the erection of new work on a level sft. above the present level. From approximate estimates the cheapest proposal was timber trusses on concrete piers, but he would definitely recommend concrete spans on concrete piers.

The engineer added that he hoped to obtain approval for the erection of the bridge within a few days. The council recommended a timber bridge with concrete piers.
