WOMEN TEACHERS

DISCRETION SOUGHT

EMPLOYMENT BY BOARD

(Par Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night

Stating that the matter as it stood at present was anti-social, Mr. T. U. Wells received the unanimous support of the Education Board when he moved at to-day’s meeting that boards should have restored to them discretionary powers in the employment of married women teachers.

The board, Mr. Wells said, was sympathetic with married woman, who had financial responsibilities or any unusual reason, but objections were entered when a married woman in no need of earning money herself, applied for a position. “I think it is anti-social,” Mr. Wells continued. “It is generally held that marriage for women should be regarded as a full-time responsibility.”
